The original edit of The Wizard of Oz included a reprise of Over the Rainbow, sung by Dorothy while she’s trapped in the witch’s castle. It was later cut when it was deemed too intense, as Garland couldn’t make it through the song without breaking down. Though the footage has been lost, the audio remains.
This is one of the most horrible things I have heard, could barely listen to it all.
This is beautiful in a haunting way that is. They should have kept it in, it would have given the film the intensity it needed during that scene. Whilst I do adore the film it was missing that element for me. Plus you can hear the emotion magnificently in Judy’s voice here, just imagine what her body language would have been doing; it would have be spectacular to see.
